Systole User Guide

Systole User Guide

PEDAL CPET Data Manager — A desktop application for cardiopulmonary exercise testing data management. Predicts peak VO₂ from 8 validated equations, generates clinical reports, creates individualized exercise prescriptions, and exports to the PEDAL REDCap database. All data stays on your local machine.

Where to Start

Quick Start — Get up and running in 10 minutes. First-time setup, the typical end-to-end workflow, and key concepts in one page. Best entry point for new users; existing users can skim and skip to the section of interest.

Reference Documentation

1. Overview — What Systole is and who it's for. Tab map, Demo / Clinical mode, privacy posture, system requirements.

2. Patient Records — The home screen: Tests / Patients / Review sub-tabs, search, filter chips, fuzzy match queue, choosing which name spelling is authoritative when merging, patient creation modal, name aliases, and Admin mode for bulk delete and reassignment.

3. Entering CPET Data — The Exercise tab: demographics summary bar, test metadata, the per-test diagnosis snapshot and values carried forward from an earlier visit, four-column observed CPET layout (Rest / AT / Peak / Recovery), structured ECG findings, Fill Missing / Recompute from BxB, Verify and Amend.

4. Breath-by-Breath Tab — The BxB workspace: Wasserman 9-panel plot, draggable AT line, exercise window markers, six averaging methods, working draft / Apply Changes flow, and the time-down data table.

5. Normative Predictions — The Reference tab: 8 prediction equations with status colors, choosing a reference for the report, expanded variable comparison, equation-info modals, and cross-equation comparison.

6. Clinical Report — The Report tab: auto-generated multi-statement clinical impression, six narrative fields with Generate / Normal helpers, and historical trend charts across serial tests.

7. Exercise Prescription — The Prescription tab: FORCE and Budts risk stratification, heart-rate-reserve target zones, talk-test and RPE guidance, clinical overrides, prescriber confirmation and printing.

8. Import and Export — All import paths (Breeze .sum, .pedal v3.0–v5.0, MedGraphics direct), bulk import options including Merge Mode, .pedal export with auto version selection, and REDCap CSV export.

9. Site Configuration — Application Mode (Demo / Clinical), Site ID, MRN normalization, protocol mappings, default normative references, default BxB averaging, database export/import, auto-backup retention, and MedGraphics SQL Server connection.

10. Exporting to REDCap — The start-to-finish REDCap export procedure: the Site ID and protocol-mapping prerequisites, selecting and downloading a batch, the export → import → confirm handshake, spotting registry rows that have gone stale (Needs Re-Export), and correcting tests exported under the wrong patient (superseded records).

11. Bulk Import in Depth — Everything Bulk Import and Merge Mode will and won't do: the per-value merge rules, what happens to verified tests (breath data may be added; values never change without an amendment), combinations to watch, the Review queue choices, and a situation-by-situation reference table. Also available as a standalone file to share by email.
